Mick McGraa’s Motormen moved ten points clear at the top of the NWCL Division One South with this, their latest away victory which makes 18 on the trot!

In a one-sided affair, Vauxhall took little time to impose themselves upon the basement club hosts, taking the lead after just nine minutes, when a Ben Holmes corner on the right, was headed on by Tom Mitchell to the back post where Glenn Rule nodded home from six yards.

Further efforts from Haydn Cooper, Danny Cross and Karl Noon followed before the visitors went 2-0 up on the half hour mark. From another right-sided Holmes corner, defender Matty Carlin headed a looping effort into the far corner and beyond George Austin in the home goal.

After a slow start to the second half, the Motormen regained authority but they had to wait until the 78th minute before going further in front, from a controversial penalty, awarded against Austin for bringing down Holmes. It did seem a little harsh on the home club but substitute Ryan Cox wasn’t about to get all sentimental as he powered home the spot kick, despite the keeper almost turning the shot around the post.

And right on 90 minutes, another smart move on the right, ended with Cox tapping home his second of the afternoon and his 13th goal of the campaign, to round off a really comfortable win for Vauxhall, who never had to a shot to deal with all afternoon such was their dominance of the game.

Vauxhall: Crump, Mason, Drummond, Carlin (Ruffer 50), Mitchell, Rule, Cross, Cooper, Noon (Kelly 64), Holmes, Burkey (Cox 73). Subs not used: Hamm, Fair.

On Tuesday evening, the Motormen will be hoping to upset the odds once more when they play host to Hyde United in the Cheshire Senior Cup at the Syncreon Arena, kick off at 7.45pm.  That is followed by a home league fixture on Saturday against Sandbach United (3pm).
