Birkenhead Park 71, Keswick 7

BASEMENT club Keswick, making their first ever visit to the Upper Park, arrived with some hope following their recent victory over Cumbria rivals Penrith but they found Park in uncompromising mood as the home side went on an eleven try scoring spree.

Park gave note of their intentions with an early score from front row man Peter Doolan which was soon followed by another forward effort from skipper Ollie Mabbott.

Park were playing at pace and after some great handling winger Adam Roscoe claimed the third home score.

Centre Adam Wellington then stormed through the Keswick defence as Park had the bonus point in the bag after 25 minutes.

Prop Martin Donnely was next to cross after more crisp passing and then good work by Ollie Jaques and Mabbott paved the way for Roscoe's second.

A great run by Keswick centre Harry Vaillant put speedster Ryan Weir away and the winger went in from long range for a fine try converted by Lewis Thompson.

Lock Jack Ashcroft completed the first half scoring as Park built up an unassailable 45-7 lead.

Substitute Dave Hall joined the action and he wasted no time in scoring the next try with Laurence Thomas continuing the rout.

Keswick made Park work hard for their second half tries but they couldn't stop Peter Doolan from completing his hat trick with the two final tries, the first after he completed a dummy and side step to beat the visitors defence.

Dave Hall hit three second half conversions to add to the five that Ollie Jaques kicked in the first half.

It was Keswick who had the final play when a great run by Weir was thwarted over the try line by Jaques but it was undoubtedly Park's afternoon.

This week Park travel to Stockport hoping to complete the double over their East Cheshire rivals.
