This was a case of after the Lord’s Mayors Parade, as Vauxhall slipped to a third home defeat in their last four outings at the Syncreon Arena, following their stunning midweek success away at Stalybridge Celtic.

The Motormen began alright, with Michael Burkey firing in a shot early on which Callum Jakovevs saved well but after just five minutes, they fell behind. Wythenshawe broke down the left flank and Matthew Bryan appeared to be offside but his cross was played on by striker Liam Crellin Myers only for home defender Tom Mitchell to turn the ball into his own net.

Home keeper Ryan Crump then had to be alert to save from well-placed Brad Byrne while Vauxhall struggled to carve out any decent chances at the other end. An ankle injury to wide player Joe Brandon didn’t do the hosts any favours either.

After the break, Motors attempted to raise their game but their passing was invariably wayward as they tried to build some momentum and on 51 minutes, the visitors struck again, leaving Motors with a mountain to climb. A right-sided corner resulted in something of a scramble in front of goal and Crellin Myers converted from close in for a 2-0 Town lead.

Motors substitute Matty Carlin went close with a header and then Motors had a goal ruled off for an infringement from the same source, after Mitchell had headed on. In the closing stages, Motors did their best to wrestle something from the game and on 87 minutes they were awarded a penalty when Karl Noon was hauled down by Jan Palinkas who received a red card for his offence.

Noon duly converted from the spot kick resulting in an all-out assault by the Motormen in the last few minutes in an effort to salvage something from the match. Ben Holmes had a header just wide of the target in a frantic finish but it was all a little too late for the hosts.
