Only three games escaped the waterlogged pitches in the Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League, writes Paul Traynor.

A strike each for Alex Pitt and Matty Beaman was just enough for Upton Town to see off the challenge of Eastham Rangers Jets 2-1 after extra time, to claim their place in the second round of the David Keith Tacy Cup.

In a second round tie, Paolos FC continue to serve up another thrilling game, defeating Rivacre FC 4-3 also after extra time.

The only league game came in the Premier Division with Queens Park coming from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Bushel Grange Athletic. Ben Kerr cancelled out Dean Fleming’s opener, but current league champions Queens Park now have a lot of work to do to retain their title.

Next Sunday will see Dock AFC take to the road with a Football Association Sunday Challenge Cup last 16 tie at Shepherds Arms in Wakefield.
