Only three games escaped the waterlogged pitches in the Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League, writes Paul Traynor.
A strike each for Alex Pitt and Matty Beaman was just enough for Upton Town to see off the challenge of Eastham Rangers Jets 2-1 after extra time, to claim their place in the second round of the David Keith Tacy Cup.
In a second round tie, Paolos FC continue to serve up another thrilling game, defeating Rivacre FC 4-3 also after extra time.
The only league game came in the Premier Division with Queens Park coming from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Bushel Grange Athletic. Ben Kerr cancelled out Dean Fleming’s opener, but current league champions Queens Park now have a lot of work to do to retain their title.
Next Sunday will see Dock AFC take to the road with a Football Association Sunday Challenge Cup last 16 tie at Shepherds Arms in Wakefield.
The Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League are now accepting new applications for both Open Age and Youth Teams/Clubs to join for the 2020/2021 season, please check the League’s website for contact details.
