AGAIN Wirral lose by a small margin on their travels with matters not helped by two cry offs just before the game along with a catalogue of injuries during the game.

On a cold day at Blackburn (is it ever warm there?) Wirral played against the wind in the first half and after four minutes were down 3-0 following a penalty by Leon Fifield.

Playing retention football Wirral built field position and an astute kick through from captain, Craig Harvey saw James Annetts run through to collect and score under the posts, also converting his own try.

After 20 minutes with pressure on the Wirral line, Blackburn forward power enabled them to retake the lead with a try from close range, duly converted- 10-7.

Four minutes later, Wirral were back in the lead when from play in the Blackburn 20m area, Craig Harvey forced his way over with James Annetts converting to give Wirral a 10-14 half time lead.

With the advantage of the wind, Wirral used to this their advantage with long kicks downfield but forward play by the home side gradually progressed down the field and were rewarded with a try in the 50th minute, which was not converted.

The Wirral players were on the understanding that there had been a knock on close to their line but without any TMO present, the try stood.

However, four minutes later, Wirral retook the lead with a long range James Annetts penalty to lead 15-17.

In the final 15 minutes, Wirral lost two of their influential players to injury with Tom Parry and Chris Crowley leaving the field.

The winning try came from centre, Myles Harrop who had been threatening all the game to break through and this time scored under the posts.

All was not lost as Wirral counter attacked and had two opportunities to score but both passes did not go to hand/ went forward.

With pressure on the Blackburn line it was a relieved home side that kicked the ball out to end the game.

Whilst towards the bottom of the league, the Wirral team have the ability with a full and fit team to beat most teams in this league as shown by the close margins they are losing matches.
