VAUXHALL Motors returned to pre-season training this midweek, as they begin their preparations for an assault on the NWCL Division One title.

In April, Mick McGraa's side finished in fine form and comfortably clinched the runners-up spot ahead of their rivals, but unfortunately their record was not good enough to earn promoted in what was a very competitive division.

This time, McGraa plans to clinch promotion to the Premier Division with the new league season starting on Saturday August 3, which is probably the earliest ever start to a new campaign.

Motors will start as one of the favourites, alongside the likes of Division One Cup winners Sandbach United and the two Wythenshawe clubs.

It already promises to be a very exciting season.

That gives the Motormen six full weeks of pre-season training and a series of friendly matches to get in shape for the new season starting with a run of three home games against Curzon Ashton on the July 6, Colwyn Bay on July 9 and Chadderton on July 13.

That is followed by further home matches against Burscough and Witton Albion towards the end of July.
