Caldy 31, Rosslyn Park 20

CALDY moved out of the relegation zone and now have National One survival in their own hands after a bonus point victory over third-placed Rosslyn Park at Paton Field on Saturday afternoon.

Caldy came out of the blocks firing, scoring the opening try through Jake Squirrel in the second minute after going over the ruck from a 10-metre lineout with Ben Jones slotting away the conversion against the wind.

Rosslyn came into the game when Benji Marfo scored the first of a brace of tries in the corner after a flowing manoeuvre to score in the corner.

Marlo gave Rosslyn Park breathing space on 20 minutes taking advantage of the extra man after Harrison Crowe was sent to the sin bin just a minute earlier, however a Jones penalty reduced the London sides lead to just two points at the break.

Caldy came out for the second half with even more purpose scoring the second try of the afternoon through Nick Royle nine minutes after the restart to allow the home side to regain the lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the afternoon.

Caldy continued to press forward with the London side being unable to get into their stride, that has put them in the promotion race for the majority of the season and were rewarded scoring a third try through Rob O'Donnell at the midway point of the half.

In an effort to score the bonus point try Caldy took their eye off the ball after a scrum allowing substitute Adam Bellamy to score under the posts to make it a very nervous final five minutes for the home side.

The nerves were settled in the final minute when man of the match Callum Ridgeway turned at the scrum before releasing the ball to Mike Barlow who evaded the opposition players to score the bonus point try to the delight of those on the bank.

A victory at Birmingham Moseley in a fortnight's time will guarantee survival in National One for another year.

Defeat will mean a nervous wait for the result of the match between Sale FC and Cambridge.
