Warrington 17, Birkenhead Park 26

BIRKENHEAD Park continued their good form at Warrington as they avenged the early season defeat with a bonus point win.

It was a double celebration for Park with the Wanderers side also travelling to Warrington and the 43-19 victory securing the Sale Sharks Division 1 title.

In the North 1 West contest Park opened the scoring with an early try from Number 8 Alwyn Watkin-Williams which Dave Hall converted.

Warrington equalised when good handling by the home backs saw Luke Gilooly touch down with Darren Norman converting.

Park recaptured the lead through a Lucas Titherington try after the Park forwards created the opportunity for the backs to thrive.

The scores were tied at half time with the dangerous winger Nathan Beesley grabbing Warrington's second try after another lively move.

Warrington then took the lead for the first time soon after the resumption with a long range effort by Beesley.

Park then began to dominate possession and a forward drive saw second row Josh Smith score and Dave Hall's conversion edged Park back into the lead.

Park sealed the game with a Peter Doolan try which Hall again improved.

For Park centre Matt Walls was again in good form with Josh Smith doing well on his return from injury in the second row and prop Danny Atherton was outstanding.

Park hold on to third place on points difference from Northwich, with one game each remaining.

Park have defeated Northwich twice this season in close fought encounters and will be hoping for a third in the Cheshire Vase Final at New Brighton on Saturday.
