Caldy 9 - Old Elthamians 40

CALDY plunged further into the relegation mire after second-placed Old Elthamians scored six tries to condemn the Paton Field team to their 16th defeat of the season.

It was the home side who started the brighter with Ben Jones slotting away two penalties in the opening five minutes.

Elthamians were stronger and quicker than Caldy throughout, but the home side did well to prevent the score escalating further.

At the midway point of the first-half a good flowing move along the Caldy line saw Ben Howard score the first try of the afternoon for the visitors.

Elthamians continued to move forward and were camped on the Caldy 22 metre line and the defence repelled each attack, but were unable to get in any flow only scoring once more through another Jones penalty on 36 minutes.

On the stroke of half-time the visitors broke the Caldy resistance as Howard finished another good flowing move.

Elthamians were not finished as Morgan scored the visitors third just before the whistle to go in with a 10-point advantage.

Caldy continued to defend well in the second half although the fourth try was inevitable and it came on the 57th minute when Morgan scored his second of the match.

In the last quarter of the match Elthamians went for the jugular and pressured Caldy who were unable to get into a rhythm also had bad luck with the fifty fifty decisions.

Elthamians scored a further try with 15 minutes to go after another great move which saw Dom Lespierre score under the posts.

Caldy's humiliation was complete when Elthamians were awarded a penalty try in the final minute to complete an emphatic victory.

Caldy are now six points adrift of safety with just three games remaining they travel to Darlington Mowden Park next Saturday. Kick-off 3pm at the Darlington Arena.
