Rotherham 29-5 Caldy

CALDY were dealt a blow in their fight for National One survival as they lost on their first ever visit to Rotherham Titans.

Their problems worsened when they had Derek Salisbury red-carded for an incident with Sam Nagle-Taylor that will see him miss three of the final four games of the season.

Rotherham started the brighter in the Yorkshire sunshine taking the lead on the quarter hour through a penalty from Man of the Match Alex Dolly which seemed to give them the confidence with Jack Bergmanas scoring the first of his two tries of the afternoon just six minutes later and with a successful conversion gave Titans a convincing 10-0 lead at the midway point of the first half.

Bergmanas's second try came on the 32nd minute which put Caldy out of reach before the half time break despite Lewis Barker avoiding a number of challenges to score what turned out to be just a consolation on the stroke of half-time.

Titans kept a grip on the game when Callum Irvine scored under the posts in the 49th minute, the game then became very scrappy and after the Salisbury red card the Caldy aim was to try and keep the scoreboard down as much as they could.

However, they were powerless to prevent Ali Thompson running in for the fourth try to claim the bonus point with just nine minutes left on the clock to the clear delight of the home crowd.

Caldy have a difficult game coming up at home this Saturday against second place Old Elthamians who are still in with a good chance of promotion.

A big home crowd is vital to cheer the Ravers to a vital victory. Kick off at Paton Field is 3pm.
