FOR the second consecutive week the final of the Sunday Flyers was between two bowlers who travelled from outside the Wirral to take part in the Tournament.

When Adam Penlington, who plays for Broughton and Bretton reached the final it looked as though he might win for the second consecutive week.

But his opponent Mike Coupe, who plays for Houghton near Preston, had other ideas and it was the Preston player who came through for a fairly comfortable win.

In his quarter-final match Coupe only just made it against New Brighton Queens Royal's Richard Bendrey, scraping through with a 21-20 win.

He then had another close game in the semis against Ledsham Royal's Adam Hormbrey.

Meanwhile Penlington played really well in defeating Hoylake Central's Bill Atkinson in his quarter final game and he then maintained his form in the semi finals with a straightforward 21-12 win over Lever's Colin Portis.

In the final Coupe established an early lead and he was never really troubled as he took a well deserved victory.
