Birkenhead Park 41, De La Salle 0

BIRKENHEAD Park gained a third consecutive victory in North 1 West with another maximum return against basement outfit De La Salle.

De La Salle put up strong resistance and Park were made to work hard throughout for their scores.

Prop Peter Doolan drove through for the opening score after 15 minutes and then stand off Will Titherington breached the visitors defence for the second try which he also converted.

Park had the upper hand in the forwards and a driving maul brought the next Park try with hooker Danny Atherton touching down.

Good work by Jack Ashcroft then put scrum half Sam Chidley clear up the blindside and he beat the cover defence to go over in style from 40 metres.

Titherington converted both and Park had the bonus point in the bag with a 26-0 half-time lead.

To their credit De La Salle refused to give up and continued to defend with vigour in the second half which restricted Park to just three more tries.

A searing break by Park winger Adam Wellington saw him power through for a great try from just inside the De La Salle half.

The next score came from number eight, Ollie Mabbott, who picked up from the base of a five-metre scrum and then the excellent Wellington rounded things off with his second try after another powerful run.

Park spokesman George Pollock said: "we were happy enough with the result and played very well at times against a spirited team."

Rob Doolan continued his come back with a strong performance in the home back row and he took the Man of the Match award.

Park will need to prepare well this week for a tricky assignment at Burnage on Saturday.

Park have never found it easy to win on the artificial surface and will have to adapt accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Park Wanderers continue to remain unbeaten all season as they go in search of a league and cup double.

Altrincham Kersal were their latest victims on Saturday.

Remarkably the Wanderers only lost once in the whole of 2018.
