PLACES in the Semi Finals of the Cayzer Shield and League Cup were up for grabs as the Chester & Wirral league program took a break for the cup quarter-finals.

Helsby and Sutton Athletic will have to play their game next week as the Helsby pitch failed an inspection for their CWFL League Cup game.

Newton Athletic go into the hat for the semi-final draw but needed penalties to dispatch Blacon Youth Reserves after the game ended 1-1.

Tom Moorefield was the Newton scorer.

Higher Bebington Kelma will join them after their 4-1 win over Christleton FC, Ben Keirman, Jordan Bilsborough and Sam Burgess (2) the scorers.

Brother Ryan and Lee Griffiths netted for Shaftesbury Youth along with Ryan Pleavin to secure a hard fought 3-2 win over St Saviours who had Adam Storton and Ryan Abraham on the score sheet.

In the CWFL Cayzer Shield Elton Athletic beat league leaders Crossway 2-1 with goals from Dean Disley and Adam Hall to move into the last four.

Princes Villa beat Groves Athletic 5-1.

FC Duddon Utd needed penalties to progress to the semis after their game with Christleton Argyle had ended 2-2. Joe Muir and Brendon Dickinson had scored for Christleton in normal time with Ewan Barrowcliff and George Gregory replying for Duddon.

In the spot kicks Duddon went two behind before edging the shootout 3-2.

Helsby Reserves (Dom Bazley (2) and Jack White) also needed penalties in their game with Orange Athletic (Matt Drury, Tom Wilkinson and Iain Thomas) after there game ended 3-3 at full-time.

Helsby went on to win 4-2 in the shootout.
