FC Oswestry Town 3, Vauxhall Motors 1

VAUXHALL lost for the first time in seven league outings, but this defeat has seriously hampered their prospects of ending the campaign in the top two.

A much-changed Motors line up started sluggishly and it took the hosts just five minutes to open their account, when Harry Bowen cut in from the left and fired towards the target.

This took a wicked deflection off the unfortunate boot of Carter Costello and flew over the reach of visiting keeper Kristofer Leigh.

Further home efforts were repelled by Leigh before Motors started to impose themselves on the game after 20 barren minutes.

Ben Greenop drew the first meaningful save from home stopper Louis Mackin before George Hassell went close.

Haydn Cooper fired one shot over the bar, but Motors finally drew level three minutes before the break.

Initially, Joe Brandon saw his shot palmed away only for Demase Kiwanda to square the ball from the left wing and Hassell was on hand to steer home the equaliser at the near post, his first Motors goal on his first start for the club.

Motors began the second half on the front foot but for all their hard work, they created very little in the final third.

Then they were struck by a hammer blow, when the hosts regained the lead on 74 minutes.

A good cross from the left fell nicely for Bowen who fired home via the inside of the far post from the right hand side of the area for his second goal of the afternoon.

Vauxhall continued to press and both Cooper and substitute Ben Holmes had decent efforts of goal but in the last minute of normal time, Oswestry put the result beyond Motors reach with a third goal from Chris Craven.

Vauxhall: Leigh, Mason (Hamm 80), Schumacker, Costello, Quinn, Cross, Brandon, Cooper, Greenop, Hassell (Holmes 68), Kiwanda. Subs not used: Scarisbrick.
