DESPITE recent rain the Winter Flyers Tournament in Birkenhead Park on Sunday was played, yet again, in lovely sunny conditions.
The final this week was contested between two players, John Cosgrove and eventual winner Anthony O'Neill.
O'Neill had a very difficult run to the final having to come through against a previous winner, Ray Lynch, in his quarter final match and then in the semis he had a great win over Nigel Hughes, the player who had been so dominant in the previous week's tournament.
Cosgrove beat young Jon Bendrey of New Brighton Quarry Vikings in the quarter finals and then he had a really close 21-19 win over the Magazine's Andy Buchanan in the semi final.
In the final O'Neill played a superb game of bowls to take a very well deserved victory.
