NEW Brighton Quarry Viking's Ray Lynch played very well to win his first Winter Flyers Tournament for some time in Birkenhead Park on Sunday.

In the final he was just too good on the day and he had a fairly straightforward win over West Kirby Victoria's John Harrison.

To reach the final he had to come through two fairly close games, firstly against Cammell Laird's Colin Mounsey and then Manor Road's Dave Gilmore, Lynch winning both by a 21-17 score.

Harrison, meanwhile, beat Hoylake Central's Tommy Walker before just holding on to win against Hoylake's Bill Atkinson by the closest of scores.

Despite Harrison's successes in these tournaments so far this year he had no answer to Lynch's persistent accuracy and the Quarry Viking's player took a comfortable victory.

Results:

Quarter Finals: R,. Lynch 21, C. Mounsey 17; D. Gilmore 21, P. McGhee 18; W. Atkinson 21, Josh Bendrey 14; J. Harrison 21, T. Walker 12.

Semi Finals: Lynch 21, Gilmore 17; Harrison 21, Atkinson 20. Final: Lynch 21, Harrison 10.

Despite losing in this final Harrison's successes this year means that he has a huge lead in the points.
