BEN Jones scored a penalty with the last kick of the game to give Caldy victory over a spirited Esher side and along with it took the lead of National 1 on points difference.

It was the visitors who started the game the brighter, scoring two tries within the first ten minutes and it looked like the London side were in a false league position starting the day second bottom.

It wasn't until the midway point of the first half that Caldy got into their stride when Gavin Roberts crossed to put Caldy within a try of Esher, neither side would have a bigger lead for the rest of the afternoon.

A penalty close to half time meant Caldy went in just a point behind.

Caldy came out of the blocks in the second half pressuring the Esher defence right from the kick off.

Harrison Crowe crashed over after a successful scrum on the five-metre line to give Caldy the lead for the first time in the game.

Just after the hour mark Charlie Gossington gave the Caldy defence the slip to regain the lead for Esher, a lead that lasted less than five minutes when National 1's top try scorer Nick Royle out ran the defence to score his first try of the afternoon.

Esher took the lead again just moments later when teenager Izaiha Moore Aiono scored the third try in 10 minutes to give the visitors a bonus point, also making for a tense final few minutes.

With five minutes left on the clock, Royle found himself in space again to cross leaving the home side just a point behind.

Esher defended for their lives for the last five minutes and it looked as though as much as they tried Caldy would not be successful until a defensive mistake in overtime gave Jones the chance which he took sending the home fans into raptures.

Caldy face their longest away trip of the season next Saturday as they travel to play 11th-placed Plymouth Albion.
