WEST Cheshire League Division Two title contenders Heswall maintained their early season run off form, thanks to a 3-2 victory over Division One counterparts, Ellesmere Port Town in Wirral & District FA's Senior Cup first round.

The Gayton Park outfit posted their second cup win in succession and were indebted to efforts from Nan Enah, Scott Connolly and Adam Walker which sealed their passage.

The visitors replied via Jamie Easton annd Ryan Nicoll.

It was celebration time also for Ashville, who had Sam Hunt and Joe Molyneux on target, in the 2-0 eclipse of Poulton Royal, while cup holders and favourites, Newton, won by the same scoreline against Vauxhall Motors Reserves, thanks to a goal apiece from Jamie Law and Ross McDowell.

Neston Nomads atoned for the previous week's unexpected Cheshire Cup exit by progressing at the expense of Higher Beb.Kelma.

Calum Hulmston, Rob Cotterell and Jack Lloyd shared the goals in a 3-2 triumph.

Ben Murray emerged the hero of the hour, after the second of his two goals in the dying seconds earned Wirral SB a penalty shoot out against Capenhurst Villa and his contribution proved invaluable as Wirral went through 4-3.

On the minus side, West Kirby and Mallaby suffered early exits at the hands of Princes Villa and Sutton Ath, respectively.

In Wirral & District FA's Amateur Cup first round, goals from Sean Lunt (3), Nick Evans and Tom Hughes helped Neston Nomads Res to a 5-1 win against Wirral SB Res, while Saturday's Chester & District Challenge Cup first round action saw a vintage display from seasoned campaigner Simon Andrews, who struck four times as Chester Nomads Res. romped home 7-2 at Crossway.

A Charlie Mann hat trick completed the statistics.

Paul Gouthwaite, Anthony Lee and Joe McLoughlin found the net as Richmond Raith Rovers accounted for Lower Breck Res 3-0 in the Liverpool & District FA Challenege Cup first round and it was a good day for Cheshire Lines, who were anchored to a 4-0 result at Halton Borough by goals from Mike Swindell (2), Danny Mulville and Adam Yazici.

The only other West Cheshire success story belonged to Page Celtic, who eliminated City of Liverpool Res 2-1, with goals from James Croxton and Dean Shacklock.

On Wednesday evening at Ashville, South Liverpool lifted the Bill Weight Memorial Trophy, after skipper Cameron Dalton bagged the game's only goal to deny Division One rivals, Hale.

In Division Two, honours were shared, after a penalty from South Liverpool Res' Gerard Forde was negated by a reply from West Kirby Res' Squeaky Clarkson.

Doubles from Marco Parvas and Mike Cummins were supplemented by a further effort from Max Hornby as Maghull Res savoured a 5-3 result over Rainhill Town Res Kieran Delaney and Sam Gainer were the respective marksmen as Ashville Res finished 1-1 with Mossley Hill Ath Res.

A smart Double from Steve Hickson set Capenhurst Villa Res up for a 4-0 victory over Redgate Rovers Res in Division Three and Alex McNab was another two goal star who shone for South Sefton Borough in their 4-3 success at Marshalls Res.

Youth Division leaders, Bootle U18, made it four wins from as many outings, when Dan Tallant, Cam Grant, Jake McKettrick and James Francis obliged in the 4-0 decision over Newton U17 while nearest rivals, Vauxhall Motors U18, kept in touch after they won 3-0 at Bootle Accademy with efforts from Will McKenchie, Dylan Jeffrey and Caelen McGovern.

Three-goal James Craven was the toast of his team mates after opportunist treble set Marshalls U18 up for a 4-0 win against West Kirby Utd.
