WIRRAL club TIXALL had a stunning victory in the final of the Cheshire Bowls Association's Brunner Cup on Saturday to regain the cup they won in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

They had ten individual winners as they cruised to a 247-177 win over Wharton BC.

Phil Lee's 21-06 win gave them a tremendous start and they built on this as the match progressed.

Robbie Fitzpatrick also had a single figure win, 21-07, as Tixall confirmed their superiority.

This week just about saw the end of the 2018 season in the evening section of the Birkenhead and Wirral Leagues.

The very clear winners of division one are Tixall who went through the season without losing a single match; last year's winners, Gladstone, were in second place.

The division two winners are the Lever Club who are returning to the top flight, Harrison Park finished second.

In the third division Thingwall took the top spot with Kendall close behind while Upton Victory Hall 'B' were the winners of division four with Pensby 'B' in second place.

The Wallasey Federation team played their final game of the season against Barnsley on Sunday and unfortunately they came off second best in yet another close match.

In the home tie on the very tricky Thingwall number two green they had seven winners with Paul Saville, 21-04, and Robbie Fitzpatrick, 21-05, leading the way and they won by 219 to 180.

Unfortunately, they only had two winners in the away leg in Barnsley and they suffered a fairly heavy defeat, 235 to 179; their only winners being Steve Nugent and Lynsey Gorman.

Overall, the team lost by just 17 points but this meant that Barnsley had won the match 21-11.
