IT'S "back to basics" for Vauxhall Motors this week as they prepare for a Bank Holiday double, at home to Workington on Saturday afternoon, followed by a trip to promoted Burscough 48 hours later.

After their opening day victory over Redditch in the Blue Square North, the Motormen looked to be on the way to a stunning success at Hyde. They led 3-0 at the interval.

But the hosts looked a decent side throughout and once they grabbed a foothold on the game, scoring their first on 66 minutes, an equally amazing come-back was always on the cards.

Harsh words may have been needed at the end, as the Motormen conceded five more goals in the final 20 minutes.

But if that was a choker, it was nothing compared to the humiliating 6-0 drubbing they received at full-time Kettering on Saturday. Manager Carl Macauley described it as a "shambles".

And so it will be a case of back to basics for the Motormen this week in training, ahead of those two important league games.

Meanwhile, the club would be interested to hear from any young girls under-12, who may be interested in playing the beautiful game. All enquiries to Linda Edmunds on 339-5447.
