YET another reduction in played fixtures as the poor weather continued to disrupt many games.

But the overdue Wirral DFA Amateur Cup fourth-round tie did take place and resulted in a 4-2 victory for Nelson FC over Upton FC as John Pomphrett rifled a brace of goals allied to singles from John Davies and Ben Dunn to secure a semi-final place and this despite Anthony Clarkson netting a superb double for Upton.

The only fixture to play in the Dundee Youth division saw FC Phoenix singe the wings of West Kirby Wasps when running out 6-0 winners to install them as divisional leaders, thanks to Ollie Lowe registering a four-goal haul and Denzel Wilkie notching a single with an own goal completing the scoring.

All other fixtures were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

It is sad to report that yet another lifelong supporter of the league has left this mortal coil with the funeral of Harry Cunningham taking place last week.

Harry was a stalwart follower of St Josephs who were once a force within local football and Harry would be present at all games come rain or shine and always offering views on all aspects of the match.

Our sincere condolences go to all his family during this sad time, which includes his son Wayne who was a swashbuckling forward in his day.

A lasting memory of Harry would be him chasing after the ball behind the opponents goal to retrieve the ball – especially if his team were losing and time was running short. God bless Harry.
