VAUXHALL Motors manager Carl Macauley had every reason to be pleased with the club's trip to Yorkshire on Saturday - his side won a hard-fought contest 2-1 against hosts Bradford Park Avenue to maintain their unbeaten pre-season sequence.
Included in their starting line-up was former Manchester City striker Paul Taylor, who almost snatched the lead twice for the Motormen, plus midfielders Steve Johnson, a recent capture from Prescot Cables who was previously with Stoke City, and Jordan Holmes, a recruit from Lancaster City. The Motormen took the lead on 52 minutes, when Thomas Rooney played Taylor through the middle. His shot was parried by Avenue keeper Jon Worsnop, but Tom Field followed in to convert the rebound into an unguarded net.Avenue struck back with a superb free-kick from full-back Andy Lee on 75 minutes, but not to be outdone Vauxhall's Brian Moogan did exactly the same trick at the other end to clinch a useful victory with seven minutes remaining. All Vauxhall's attention now switches to Saturday's home game against Tranmere Rovers at Rivacre Park (kick-off 3pm), in what is both clubs' final outing prior to their respective league matches kicking off the following weekend.
