OVERNIGHT rain meant that the greens were very heavy for this weeks Flyers

Tournament but the sun came out and conditions were not too bad. Coping with the conditions better than might have been expected West Kirby's Bill Atkinson surpassed his own expectations and recorded his first win in these tournaments for some time just edging past Gladstone's Joe Edwards in the final.

In his quarter final match against Anthony O'Neill of Tixall's Atkinson took a big lead which he just hung onto to go through to meet Hoylake Central's Tommy Walker in the semi final.

This was another tight game but Atkinson generally had the advantage and he won 21-16.

Meanwhile Edwards could not have had a much more difficult path to the final; he beat Tixall's Jamie Fitzpatrick in his quarter final match and then in the semi final he just got the better of Hawksbury's (North Wales) Paul Roberts.

In the final Edwards went into an early lead which he held onto throughout most of the game and Atkinson had to fight back from being 18-10 down to scrape past Edwards in the final end of the match.
