IN the final of the Wallasey Association’s Presidents Cup on Saturday, which was played on the Upton Victory Hall green, New Brighton Quarry Vikings had an overwhelming victory against their opponents Manor Road 'B'.

The Vikings won all 12 of the games overturning a 66-point deficit to post a 69-point win.

They had six single point winners with the best scores being by Phil Lee and John Harrison who both had 21-04 wins.

Despite this loss the Manor Road team are to be congratulated for winning through to the final; they were unfortunate to meet a team who were in such dominant form on the day.

Unfortunately the following day, Sunday, torrential rain caused the cancellation of the Wallasey Festival and the Wallasey Junior Merit.

These will be rearranged for a later date.

On Saturday, also at Upton Victory Hall, Lynsey Gorman and Anita Richardson won the Ladies Deardon Pairs for the fourth successive year.

In the final they beat the same couple they faced in the 2016 final, Linda Howard and Margaret Lewis; this year their winning score was 21-11.

After three years of success a Wirral team will not be competing in the Cheshire Association’s Brunner Cup final this year.

On Saturday Tixalls lost their semi final match to the very strong Castle Sports and Social Club team.

However Tixall 'B' are through to the De Knoope Cup final. They will be facing Lloyds Hotel and this match will be played on Saturday, August 5, at Moulton RBL, 2.30pm start.

The winners of the Richard Evans Memorial Junior Tournament, played at Cammell Laird's on Saturday, were: Under- 14s Michael Cavanagh who beat Jonathan Bendry in the final and in the under-18s Jamie Isaac who beat Chloe Cavanagh in the final.
