VAUXHALL Motors manager Carl Macauley has signed up a number of familiar faces for the new Blue Square Conference North, including young midfielder Keith Smith and former Nuneaton player Marek Smzid.

Smith came to prominence towards the end of last season, when he helped steer the Motormen to their best-ever position in the competition, formerly known as the Nationwide North, while Smzid has now recovered from a horrific fractured leg he suffered 18 months ago.

And with the majority of last season's squad now signed up for the new campaign, which begins at home to Alfreton on Saturday, August 11.

Workington provide the opposition at Rivacre Park on Saturday, August 25 and two days later on Bank Holiday Monday, Motors visit newly-promoted Burscough.

In the meantime, Macclesfield Town, scheduled pre-season visitors next Monday, have pulled out of the game at short notice, leaving the Motormen with just two home pre-season games against Chester (July 21) and Tranmere (August 4).

They start their friendly programme at Colwyn Bay this Saturday (3pm).

Meanwhile, in the FA Youth Cup, Motors have been drawn at home to Nantwich Town.
