WRESTLING for a spot at the top of Cheshire Div One, Oxton Ladies welcomed Lymm Twos to the den.
Sitting only one point behind league leaders Alderley Edge Twos, Oxton could not afford a slip up at this stage of the competition.
Initially the lionesses made heavy weather of the task, against a Lymm side who had clearly turned up with an upset in mind.
Oxton absorbed the initial pressure and despite a number of chances on the counter, were unable to capitalise.
After an inspiring half-time chat from coach Ethan Price, the girls came out more determined, but harbouring a few injuries sustained in the first half.
Oxton increased the attacking pressure, but Lymm took advantage, trying to break through the Oxton defence, who held firm.
Eventually half way through the second half, came a break in the deadlock, with a well worked goal, from skipper Jules Armstrong, to take the home side to a 1-0 lead.
Both sides continued to battle hard, with near misses at both ends.
But with the spectators nails almost bitten to nothing, the final whistle blew and Oxton walked away with the full three points to keep their dream of promotion alive.
