CARL Macauley's Vauxhall Motors took a huge step towards securing their place in the Nationwide Conference North for another season over Easter.

A hard-earned 1-1 draw at play-off hopefuls Hinckley United on Saturday was followed by a 4-1 thrashing of basement club Lancaster City at Rivacre Park on Easter Monday.

The Motormen came from behind at Hinckley to wrestle a point, thanks to a superb Brian Moogan free-kick, while on Monday first-half goals from Anthony Wright, Keith Smith and Thomas Rooney without reply set Motors on the way to a victory that saw them jump five places in the table up to 14th spot.

Wright grabbed his second of the contest late on to complete the scoring.

This weekend the Motormen make the long trek north to face renowned cup fighters Blyth Spartans, who have a faint chance of making the play-offs. That is quickly followed by Motors' crucial game in hand, at home to Redditch United next Tuesday at Rivacre Park (7.45pm) - and you can be there at a discount price on production of the cut-out voucher published on the back page of this week's Wirral Globe.
