YET again the top prize left the Wirral as John Hignett Jnr won this week's bowls flyers event in Birkenhead Park on Sunday morning.
In only his third visit since Christmas he won for the second time beating Tixall's Matt Gilmore in the final.
Hignett played very well on his way to the final beating New Brighton Quarry Viking's John Harrison in the quarters and and then Upton Victory Hall's Tony Ratcliffe in a fairly one-sided semi-final.
In his quarter-final match Gilmore had a superb win over another Tixall player, Mick Andrews, the current leader in the points table, before going on to beat Mike Shiels, one of the players over from Liverpool, in his semi final match.
Yet again the final was close but Hignett edged it to take a 21-17 victory.
Results:
Quarter-finals: T. Ratcliffe (Upton Victory Hall) 21, W. Atkinson (West Kirby) 19; J. Hignet Jnr (Manchester) 21, J. Harrison (New Brighton Quarry Vikings) 13; M. Gilmore (Tixall) 21, M. Andrews (Tixall) 08; M. Shiels (Liverpool) 21, D. Gilmore (Manor Road) 18.
