Moor Green . . . 5 Vauxhall Motors . . . 2

VAUXHALL Motors face their most difficult test of the season so far on Saturday, when they travel to Conference National club Kidderminster Harriers in an FA Trophy tie.

Carl Macauley's side certainly fancied their chances, despite the enormity of the draw, when they breezed past Worksop in the previous round, with Motors on an eight-match unbeaten sequence.

But since then, Harriers have won back-to-back league games to revive their playing fortunes, while the Motormen have surprisingly lost two on the bounce.

The latest was Saturday's mauling at Moor Green , but the scoreline barely tells the story of the game.

Whittaker deservedly put Vauxhall in front early on and while they were pegged back by a penalty, they appeared to have scored a perfectly constructed "goal" to re-take the lead on 19 minutes - until a bemused crowd noted a raised assistant's flag on the far side, for an apparent offside!

The hosts then turned this to advantage to lead 3-1 at the break. Motors piled on the pressure in the second-half but had to wait until the 77th minute for captain McNulty to reduce the deficit from the spot.

This was the signal to throw caution to the wind in an effort to retrieve something from the game, only for the hosts to strike twice in the closing stages with Motors pushing forward, to put a somewhat flattering slant on the result.

The Vauxhall manager will certainly be hoping that midfielder Mike Garrity returns to fitness ahead of Saturday's tie, having missed the Moor Green fixture with a dead leg.
