Jeremy Hunt will deliver the autumn statement this month after Rishi Sunak confirmed on Monday (November 13) that the chancellor would retain his role despite a cabinet reshuffle.

The cabinet reshuffle came after Suella Braverman was sacked as home secretary following comments she made in and article in The Times on Wednesday (November 8).

The comments included a comparison of a pro-Palestinian rally planned for central London on Armistice Day (Saturday, November 11) to sectarian marches held in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.

Mrs Braverman has now been replaced as home secretary by James Cleverly.

In other moves within the cabinet on Monday, Former Prime Minister David Cameron was appointed as the new foreign secretary, replacing Mr Cleverly.

Therese Coffey resigned as Environment Secretary and was replaced by Steve Barclay who moves from his role as health secretary.

Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said the reshuffle came as he “strengthens his team in Government to deliver long-term decisions for a brighter future”.

When is the Autumn Budget 2023?

Despite Monday's cabinet reshuffle Mr Hunt has kept his role as the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The Chancellor has been under pressure from some Tory MPs to offer tax cuts in the build-up to the general election expected next year but has prioritised efforts to cut inflation.

Monday's cabinet reshuffle comes just over a week before the 2023 autumn statement is revealed by Mr Hunt.

The chancellor announced in September that he would be presenting the 2023 Autumn Statement to Parliament on Wednesday, November 22.

It follows the King's Speech which was made by King Charles last Tuesday (November 7).

In the King's speech, the government set out its legislative agenda for the forthcoming parliamentary session.

This included bringing down inflation to ease the cost of living; a Bill to promote trade and investment; legislation to restrict the sale of tobacco and e-cigarettes to children; a Bill to reform the housing market by making it cheaper and easier for leaseholders to purchase their freehold; The Holocaust Memorial Bill; and an Illegal Migration Act.
