Revellers in Wirral will be able to stage cut-price street parties to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee as the council says it will waive road closure charges.
An extra bank holiday for the Jubilee promises to make for a long weekend of celebration.
And to help residents get in the party spirit, Wirral Council has pledged it will not be charging its usual £150 fee to shut roads when the borough joins in marking 60 years of the Queen’s reign.
The party weekend begins on Saturday, June 2, and runs until Tuesday, June 5.
The council stresses any Wirral community wishing to stage a street party must firs apply for road closure permission.
You can do this from the council’s website at www. wirral.gov.uk The deadline to submit your application is noon on Friday, April 27.
Last April, Wirral was in full Royal Wedding street party mode when bunting was hung, flags flown and faces painted as whole neighbourhoods came together to mark the marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton.
