A Twitter imposter has taken on the identity of Wirral Council leader Steve Foulkes and set up a social network page claiming to post his views.

Councillor Foulkes has warned that action could be taken against the person responsible for Twitter account ‘Foulkes World’ – if it is found to be politically motivated.

The page surfaced on the popular micro-blogging website shortly after the local elections with a Tweet saying: “It's D-3 today in Wirral. Yes, peasants, that means just three days until I am rightfully reinstated as Leader of this Borough. My Borough!”

And many posts begin: "To all Group + Nibbo" presumably referring to the recent defection of former Lib Dem councillor Steve Niblock to the Labour ranks.

Although the page makes clear it is a fake, by saying “He’s not on twitter, but if he was...” Cllr Foulkes is keen to assure Wirral residents that he has no part in it.

He said: “ The account has clearly been set up by someone who has not got the best regard for myself.

"I briefly had a look at it but dismissed it very quickly.

"But if we find that it has a political motivation behind it, it just shows how pathetic they are. People can be reassured that it has nothing to do with Labour but it raises issues that people can seemingly get away with things like this and face no retribution.”

Some of the page’s most recent Tweets include: “Oi, Nibbo! Soldiers, now! No crusts. Egg runny. And I wanna use me new Take That knife and fork gift set. Sort it!”

Another reads: “Awkward night at Employments Committee - still can't find a job for Nibbo. Or Hackett. Asked Addo to sort apprenticeships for them.”

Councillor Foulkes added: “People should ignore whatever is written on the page and come straight to me if they have enquiries about council issues.

"I just hope that whoever is behind it does not stoop so low to make personal attacks on myself or the people I care about.

"If any legislation does come into action and we find out that it is politically driven, we take it further.”
