TOP author John Boyne treated Wirral pupils to a special workshop last week.

The best-selling writer of The Boy in Striped Pyjamas visited St John Plessington College as part of a country-wide tour of selected schools.

He spent an afternoon with pupils to talk about how he broke into the business and what inspired him to write his books.

John then held a book signing and posed for photographs with students.

And the visit was success with budding writers, as one pupil said: "It was really interesting to discuss how the start of a good book is a good idea! John was inspirational."

The event comes after the recent news from Ofsted that the school retains its 'Outstanding' status.

Headteacher Tom Quinn said: "Well done to everyone across the community for helping us maintain this high level of performance - a fantastic platform to enable the College to go from strength to strength."
