Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses following the discovery of racist graffiti while investigating an arson attack at Birkenhead sea cadets' building.
While investigating the Park Road East fire, officers discovered graffiti in the hut, some of which was racially abusive.
Sergeant Ian Wiggins, from Merseyside Police's Sigma Unit, said: "We are investigating a possible connection between the person who wrote the graffiti and the person who deliberately started the fire.
"We take racial abuse very seriously and have dedicated units to investigate such crimes, which will not be tolerated in Merseyside.
"We are appealing to members of the public who may have seen someone acting suspiciously around the sea cadets' hut at the time to come forward so we can take action against the offenders."
The blaze was reported to police at around 6.15pm, last Sunday, November 21.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2611, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
