Clare Mount Specialist Sports College has proved itself as an "outstanding" school according to its latest Ofsted inspection.

Moreton's Clare Mount caters for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and additional needs including autism.

They are not only a specialist sports college but have also achieved specialist status in cognition and learning, the Sportsmark, Artsmark Gold, Green Flag Award, a Quality Award and an award for excellence in careers and guidance.

The latest accolade from Ofsted comes eight months after being judged as achieving the top category by inspectors for promoting ICT across the curriculum.

They said that students are keen to learn, make good progress and achieve well, inspectors also commented on the pupils’ outstanding behaviour, highlighting how they make remarkable progress in social skills, how the pupils felt very safe in school and encouraged to contribute.

The curriculum at the school was also praised, as were the work experience facilities and the senior teachers and governing body.

Headteacher Shirley Allen said: “We are delighted to have been judged as outstanding by Ofsted.

"I believe that the praise we have received is due, in no small part, to our teachers, the non-teaching staff, the governing body, the parents and the local community all pulling together to deliver the best we possibly can for our pupils.

"I would also like to thank our students who work so hard and make me feel so proud on a daily basis.“

Councillor Sheila Clarke, Wirral’s cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Everyone at Wirral Council is incredibly proud of Clare Mount's latest recognition.

"This is a very popular school and I know that they have worked very hard to achieve this success.”
