SHOPLIFTING FINE:

Mother and son faced Wirral Magistrates for shoplifting.

They were questioned several days after they were spotted on cctv taking items from Asda at Bromborough.

Gillian McKeown,45, of Portbury Close, Bebington, and Rory Luke McKeown, 22, of Old Chester Road, Birkenhead, admitted theft of goods estimated at £50 which were not recovered.

Andy Slight, defending, said the offence was motivated by lack of funds.

Each accused was fined £70 plus £100 costs.

They also had to share £50 compensation. Rory McKeown was in breach of a conditional discharge for a previous theft and on this matter was additionally fined £100.

CANNABIS IN CAR:

A passenger in a car stopped by police was found to have a grinder and a small amount of cannabis in his possession, Wirral Magistrates were told.

Sean Gerrard McGhee, 19, of Cleveland Street, Birkenhead, was convicted of unlawful possession of a Class B drug and also a Bail Act matter.

He was granted a 12-month conditional discharge but had to pay £150 costs. The grinder and cannabis were forfeited.

CAR CRASH SKIRMISH:

A skirmish after a motoring incident in which one vehicle reversed into another led to a 40-year-old man appearing before Wirral Magistrates.

Lee Marvin Jackson of Dovedale Court, in Garrick Avenue, Upton, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and also using or threatening unlawful violence.

Magistrates after reading reports decided the offences passed the custody threshold.

But they agreed to suspend for a year a 12-week prison term.

Jackson was also made the subject of a supervision order. He was banned from driving for a year and must pass an extended test at the end of the term before being allowed to hold a full licence again.

He had to pay £85 costs and £175 compensation to the other driver, who sustained injuries which included a black eye.

GAVE FALSE NAME:

A shoplifter who gave a friend’s name when questioned appeared before Wirral Magistrates.

Stuart Sullivan,39, of Penkett Road, Wallasey, admitted stealing items worth £50 from B&M at the Cherry Tree Centre in Wallasey and also obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty.

Sullivan was fined £140 and also had to pay £100 costs.

SWERVED TO AVOID FOX:

A motorist who lost control on a bend in Barnston Road, Thingwall, at 3.10am had swerved to avoid a fox, defence solicitor Simon Simons told Magistrates.

Edward Lucas, a 49-Year-old Birkenhead Market security attendant, of Kenmore Road, Prenton, pleaded guilty to drink-driving in January.

He was taken to hospital after the accident and a blood sample taken later showed almost three times the legal alcohol limit.

Magistrates made a nine-month supervision order. Lucas must serve 80 hours of unpaid work.

There was a two year driving ban and Lucas was ordered to pay £85 costs.

DRUG CHARGE:

Richard Paul Graham, 39, of Malvern Road, Wallasey, was remanded on bail for two weeks by Wirral Magistrates. He is charged with cultivating 42 cannabis plants. No plea was entered.
