Wirral Sunday League round-up by Rob James

THERE were no half measures from Halfway House or Alan Jones, who bagged all four goals as the Childer Thornton outfit overcame Division Two minnows Mayfields to record a 4-0 victory in a Pyke Sunday Cup third round tie.

Division One promotion hopefuls Bromborough Allport also had cause for celebration, after curtailing the interests of Premier Division club Wirral Hotel. Dave Kerr, Steve Scallion, Liam Phelan and Craig Forshaw applied the finishing touches in a 4-1 win.

Lancelyn continued their pursuit of a third Pyke Cup success, after holing Division Two leaders Baltic Fleet below the waterline. Mike McGree struck twice and a further effort from Steve Corris completed a 3-1 win, as the Premier Division club stepped up their bid to emulate their 2000 and 2003 triumphs.

Kieran Fleetwood hit both goals for Wirral Health, but the Hospital men became third round casualties, after Old Market rallied through Mark Kenny, 3, and Paul Causineau to secure a 4-2 result.

Another hat-trick hero was Sportsman's Kevin Downey, who was joined on the score sheet by Davie Watterson in steering their side to a 4-0 win against Premier Division rivals St Joseph's.

On the League scene, Towers put daylight between themselves and opponents Pollards Inn in a Premier Division relegation battle at Levers. Neil Pickering and Cliff Welsh netted in a narrow 2-1 win.
