A minute's silence was observed before the start of all matches in the Ellesmere Port & District Sunday Senior Soccer League as a mark of respect to well known referee Arthur Huth, who died while in charge of a match.
League secretary Barbara Williamson said: "Local football has lost a true friend and supporter. Arthur was well known to us all as a player and manager before taking up refereeing in 1982. He was a lovely man, always cheerful and loved his football. He will be sadly missed by us all. We offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to Arthur's family."
