From Mrs S. J. Rickards (parent)
Mr. S. Rayworth (homosexual teacher
and family friend):-
WE were astounded and horrified by the reaction of parents regarding the teaching of homosexuality as part of sex education in schools (Mailbox May 20). Their attitude and use of abusive language (i.e. 'perversion') in relation to the subject of homosexuality are frightening.
Perhaps we should consider that the introduction of a more realistic view of teaching sex education (i.e. one that embraces all sexualities) might prevent children from having the same discriminatory views as their parents.
Ideally children should be taught sex education by parents before they are misinformed via the school playground. For a variety of reasons, parents rely on schools to provide sex education. Ultimately, we think this would be preferable considering the opinions of so-called modern day parents/homophobic bigots.
