SELF-MADE millionaire Tony Southworth, who once owned a chain of service stations, died at the weekend of a suspected heart attack.

He died at his villa in Spain, at the age of 57, after feeling unwell following a game of golf. His wife Linda has been joined in Spain by their children.

Mr Southworth left Wirral Grammar School to become a bank clerk and in his spare time manned petrol pumps at his father's garage, where he came into contact with oil company reps.

He became an agent selling sites to petrol companies, then formed his own company and went into partnership as Telegraph Properties, which had a service station offshoot.

Mr Southworth was a director of Hoylake Cottage Hospital Trust. He lived in Caldy, then moved to West Kirby when he sold the service station group.

A devoted family man, he retained business interests but devoted more time to be with the family and practise shooting and golf.

Funeral arrangements are not known at the time of going to press. We extend our sympathy to the family.
