From Coun Gordon Paterson:-

I REFER to the article headlined "Changes Post Haste" (Globe, February 17) which states that "readers are split as to whether they want to stay with an L for Liverpool postcode or go back to CH for Cheshire".

In the interests of historical accuracy, I should point out that Wirral has never used a postcode of CH.

Postcodes were introduced in February, 1978, and the Merseyside County Council was then in existence, having been established in 1974, and the Post Office gave all of Merseyside with the county council area, and also the Liverpool Telephone Area, the postcode of L.

Wirral cannot go back to something it has never had.
