From Kate Miller:-

FOLLOWING all of the recent bad publicity of Wirral Metropolitan College, I, too, think that the closure of the Carlett Park Campus, and the redundancies of up to 170 staff, is a great shame to us all.

I have been a business studies student at Carlett Park for two years now and still do not have a bad word to say against the college. I have been studying for a GNVQ Advanced in Business and I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and the time I have spent at the college.

I was fortunate enough, as part of my course, to take up a two week work placement in the Costa Del Sol, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved - an opportunity that the majority of Further Education students just don't get.

Now towards the end of my course, I have managed to secure a place at Nottingham Trent University to study Business Management, beating more than 430 other applicants from across the country. This particular course involves a sponsorship and a two year paid placement with a consortium of 'blue chip' companies, including Boots, Tesco, Reuters and British Sugar.

Although I am looking forward to September, I do not believe that any of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Wirral Met Staff, who have helped and supported me throughout the course, and my heart and a big 'thank you' goes out to them all.

I certainly do not believe that I am the only one to have enjoyed and benefited so much from the college; I am sure that there are many more of us students who think alike. Although the course will be moving to a more central location in Birkenhead, I still believe that the college will continue to benefit current and future students of Wirral.
