WIRRAL AC's annual Birkenhead Park Road Race was again well supported, particularly as the race has been re-instated in the Mersey Parks Grand Prix.

The races were supported by Ron Hill with additional sponsorship from SIS, New Balance and Max Spielmann.

Main race - the Park 5 - was won by former Liverpool Harrier Tony O'Brien, now competing for Morpeth, in a time of 24 minutes 18 seconds.

Wirral AC's current top distance runner, Paul Howarth, was close behind in third place in a time of 24:28.0. Tony McDevitt was the next Wirral runner, in 20th place overall, but 4th M45, in a time of 26:18.0.

They were followed by Wirral AC colleagues Phil Peerless (25th, 27:13.0), Eain Robinson (28th, 27:42.0), Martin Quinn (33rd, 27:58.0), John Durrand (38th, 28:32.0), Mark Morris (39th, 28:35.0) and Keith Buxton (M40, 40th, 28:37.0).

The women's race was won by international Jennie Clague, of Liverpool Harriers, in a time of 29:13.0.
