SPECULATION is mounting that Tranmere Rovers' star central defender, John McGreal, could be about to join former skipper Kenny Irons at fellow Nationwide League Division One club Huddersfield Town.

Tranmere Chief Executive Lorraine Rogers said: "I wouldn't comment on speculation and there's nothing I can say with certainty."

Meanwhile a spokesman for Huddersfield Town commented: "We are being linked with a whole host of players, and we wouldn't deny or confirm interest until a deal is actually done."

McGreal, who, like Irons, progressed to Tranmere's first team via the club's successful Youth Development scheme, is rated one of the club's hottest properties and would command a £1m-plus fee.

Meanwhile, Prenton Park's new arrival, former Oldham Athletic and Sheffield United midfielder Nick Henry, completed his move on Friday.

Henry, who has signed a two year contract, is a competitive player and will provide Rovers with stability and strength in midfield following the sale of Irons.

Ms Rogers reported nothing was happening on manager John Aldridge's attempt to sign Arsenal reserve Michael Black. The 22-year-old left sided midfielder, available on a free transfer, met with Mr Aldridge on Thursday night, but the player is believed to be pursuing other options with at least three other clubs interested in his signature.
