A NEW £12m, state-of-the-art factory owned by Danish company Tulip International has opened at Wirral International Business Park, Bromborough.

The factory was officially opened by Barry Morris, director of Marks and Spencer's Food and Home Division.

The company was previously based at the Horizon Biscuits plant in Moreton. Of the 247 staff at the Moreton site 210 moved to the new factory but the remainder were made redundant by Horizon.

Congratulating Tulip on their new home Barry Morris said: "Marks & Spencer has enjoyed a long standing partnership with Tulip and so we are delighted to have been involved in this project from the outset."

Kaj K Larsen, Chairman of Tulip International, said: "This is a very exciting time for Tulip. We are proud of the new factory and we are pleased to have preserved 350 jobs on Merseyside by finding a way to stay in the region."

On Sunday Tulip sponsored T-shirts and provided an operational base for the Gateway to Wirral 10k Schools Challenge in aid of Claire House.
