A WOMAN in her late 20s was 'stable' in Arrowe Park Hospital recovering from stab wounds to her neck and upper body yesterday (Tuesday) following a serious incident at Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead, at 8.10am that morning.
At the time of going to press, police were questioning a man who was detained at the scene near Charing Cross, as well as interviewing other witnesses.
The woman is believed to have been stabbed while sitting in her car and police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area at the time. They particularly want to hear from anyone who saw the occupants of a black Ford Escort and a gold Renault Clio.
Police cordoned off Whetstone Lane from Borough Road up to Charing Cross, causing major traffic congestion around the 9am rush-hour period. Scene of Crime officers in special sterile suits searched the area and took photographs at the scene.
If you have information concerning this incident, contact the CID at Birkenhead on 777-2264 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
