First meeting of the new Senior Citizens' Forum at Wirral Multicultural Centre, 1.30pm. Age Concern Wirral want to recruit a group of 50-60 older people to join this forum to ensure that the voice of older people is heard in the design and delivery of services which impact on their well-being. Age Concern Week Tea Dance: 1.30pm-3.30pm at Birkenhead Town Hall. £1.50 admission includes refreshments. In conjunction with the Hamilton Quarter Project.

The Wanderers of Wirral Travel Club Day Trip to Blackpool: Leaves Shore Road, Birkenhead, 10am. Trip will include time for shopping as well as the Illuminations. Cost £8.25. For further details contact Jean Wilson on 666-2220.

Accident Prevention Campaign: Information on how to prevent 'slips, trips and broken hips' available throughout this special week. Age Concern Wirral's Teapot Bus will be distributing packs of information to older people and their carers free of charge. Health professionals will also be on hand to offer additional advice. The Teapot Bus will be in Moreton on Tuesday, Liscard Shopping Centre on Thursday, and Birkenhead (Catherine Street) on Friday. For further information contact Julie Morris on 608-9010.

September 27 - October 1

Electric Blanket Testing: Once again Age Concern Wirral has linked up with Merseyside Fire Brigade & Wirral Trading Standards to focus on safety issues concerning electric blankets. Older people can have their electric blanket tested at various venues including selected fire stations free of charge. The Benefits Agency and housing Benefit department will also be on hand to offer advice on financial matters. By appointment only - contact the advice department on 666-2220.

October 1

International Music & Dance Extravaganza at Pacific Road Transport Museum, Birkenhead, 7.30pm. The United Nations has designated 1999 as the Year of Older Persons. Age Concern Wirral believes that getting older is a cause for celebration. The evening will include performances from George Ferguson School of Irish Dance, Spanish Flamenco, French dancing, local schools, steel bands, the Grey Eres' Barbershop Quartet, opera and much, much more. Supported by UN, The Hamilton Quarter, local artist and businesses. Tickets are £4 (£3 concession) from Age Concern Wirral, 666-2220.
