CALDY secured a holiday weekend double and now head the Bromborough Paints Merseyside Competition Division One table by 25 points from Sutton.

They demolished Cheshire Lines by nine wickets on Saturday and followed up with a 98 runs success at Wavertree.

Mark Gillespie took 7-25 on Saturday and on Monday claimed 6-40 and also hit 58.

Irby also gained two wins. The margin against Runcorn was 94 runs. Dave Newman hit 51 and Colin Gibson took 6-14 and Ian Johnson 4-16.

It was 58 runs at Prestatyn, where Newman made 70 and Johnson took 4-29. Parkonians had a draw and a defeat, while nine-man Port Sunlight held on at Ainsdale for a draw. They lost by five wickets at home to St Asaph on Monday.

Parkfield, with a win and a draw, stay top of Division Two ahead of Nalgo and Birkenhead St Mary's, who succeeded in their one game on Monday at home to Xaverians. The margin was eight wickets, John Ford hitting a half century and Andy Gibson getting 5-20.

Wirral Mersey Park lost at Nalgo, but beat Buckley easily with Dave Coulthard making 45 and Peter Sundve claiming 6-7.

Rain brought an early finish to the representative clash between Merseyside and the Isle of Man. Merseyside scored 203-7 and the Islanders were on 143-5 when play ended early.
