New Brighton . . . . . . . . . . . . . 33pts, Doncaster . . . . . . . . . . . . 9pts

NEW Brighton made a terrific start to their Jewsons National League Two campaign with an emphatic home victory.

"I'll settle for that," enthused skipper Geoff Jones. "There were times when we had to dig deep to hold the line, but in the end we did enough to win the game."

New Brighton led 6-0 after 10 minutes, thanks to two penalties from Marcus Coast. Doncaster replied with a penalty of their own from veteran kicker Liley (6-3).

Jones then went over to score his first captain's try, but Coast failed to convert. On 37 minutes, Bennett set up Tom Mapp for a splendid drop goal for 14-3. Liley responded with a 40 yard penalty on 39 minutes (14-6).

The move of the game came shortly into the second-half. Brilliant work by Coast and live wire Bennett found Tom Mapp, who raced in for a spectacular try (19-6). Coast failed to convert.

Liley kicked another penalty, but it only forced the Blues into scoring mood. Power play by Dorrington, Thomas, Shuddall and Hodgers resulted in another try for Jones. Coast converted (26-9).

Sean Kay then raced 40 yards to touch down and Coast converted for a final score of 33-9.

New Brighton entertain Aspatria in Jewsons National League Two at Reeds Lane on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
